About the campaign
Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar (“Clean Coast, Safe Sea”) is a nationwide coastal cleanup campaign of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, coordinated by the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Chennai.
The 2026 edition runs as a week-long nationwide movement from 13th to 19th September 2026, culminating in mega beach cleanup drives on International Coastal Cleanup Day. Volunteers, students, institutions, coastal communities and citizen groups take part at designated coastal locations across India’s 13 coastal States and Union Territories, collecting and recording marine litter.
The campaign is delivered at each location by a lead coordinating institution, with technical coordination by the institutes of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Official mobile application
Sagar Prahari सागर प्रहरी
Sagar Prahari is the official mobile application of the Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar campaign, developed for the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.
Volunteers use the application to register for the campaign, record the marine litter they collect at a participating location, photograph and categorise it, and submit the cleanup details. The data collected supports marine litter monitoring through citizen participation.
The designated cleanup locations, the participating States and Union Territories and the coordinating institutions shown in the application are those of this campaign, as notified by NCCR.

How to take part
- Install the Sagar Prahari application and register with your mobile number.
- Choose a participating cleanup location from those listed in the application.
- Take part in the cleanup at that location on the campaign date.
- Record the marine litter collected in the application and submit the cleanup details.
Participation is open to volunteers, students, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, coastal communities and citizen groups.
